This Moment.

A commemoration is only as strong as what it produces in the communities it touches. Puerto Rico America250 is not a single event or a single ceremony. It is a year-long program of activities designed to reach every corner of the island, engage every generation, and leave something lasting behind.

The programs below represent Puerto Rico's official contribution to the United States Semiquincentennial. They are organized across four pillars: culture, civic life, military honor, and education.

CULTURAL PROGRAMS

Cultural Festivals and Public Exhibitions

Puerto Rico's artistic and cultural traditions will take center stage throughout 2026. Festivals, public exhibitions, and performances across the island will celebrate the music, visual arts, craftsmanship, and living culture that make Puerto Rico distinct and that have always enriched the broader American story.

The Liberty Bell Mundillo Creation

On July 4th, 2026, Puerto Rican artisans will recreate the Liberty Bell in mundillo, the island's centuries-old tradition of handmade bobbin lace. It is an object that exists nowhere else in the world: an American symbol made entirely from Puerto Rican hands, in a craft that predates the republic itself.

America250 Gala Concert Series

Three commemorative gala concerts, at Base Ramey, Campamento Santiago in Salinas, and Fort Buchanan in Guaynabo, will mark the days leading into July 4th with live music celebrating Puerto Rico's cultural heritage and its relationship with the United States Armed Forces.

America250 Regatta

A large-scale maritime celebration featuring training ships, cruise vessels, and international participants. The event will include cultural performances, gastronomy, and experiences celebrating Puerto Rico's deep maritime heritage, extending the Semiquincentennial's legacy into the year that follows.

CIVIC PROGRAMS

Liberty Bell Island Tour

A symbolic Liberty Bell replica will travel across all 78 municipalities, bringing the Semiquincentennial to every community on the island. Each stop will include civic ceremonies, educational activities, and public engagement. The tour culminates on July 4th at the official Semiquincentennial celebration.

Living Flag Ceremony

Students from the Puerto Rico Department of Education summer programs will gather at El Morro in Old San Juan to form a Living Flag, recreating the flags of the United States and Puerto Rico through their own presence. It is the most direct statement this commemoration can make: the next generation, standing together, on the oldest ground on the island, under both flags at once. No speech says what that image says.

America250 Flag Installation Initiative

The America250 flag will be installed at the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge. The flags of the United States, Puerto Rico, and America250 will fly together along Avenida Baldorioty de Castro, a visible daily reminder of the island's participation in the national commemoration.

Commemorative Plaque Unveiling

A permanent plaque marking Puerto Rico's participation in the 250th Anniversary of the United States will be unveiled on July 1, 2026. It is a lasting civic record of this island's place in this moment.

America250 Governor's Cup

The Semiquincentennial comes to Hipódromo Camarero on July 5, 2026, with a commemorative Governor's Cup horse race. It is one of Puerto Rico's most enduring civic and sporting traditions, elevated into the national celebration.

MILITARY HONOR PROGRAMS

National Borinqueneers Day

April 13, 2026

A formal observance honoring the soldiers of the 65th Infantry Regiment, the Borinqueneers, whose service and sacrifice represent the highest expression of Puerto Rico's commitment to this nation.

Military Observances

Puerto Rico will mark National Poppy Day, Memorial Day, Women Veterans Day, Purple Heart Day, and the Coast Guard Birthday with official ceremonies, honoring the Puerto Rican men and women who have served, been wounded, and died in defense of the United States. These are not symbolic gestures. They are obligations.

EDUCATION & COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Educational Competitions

In partnership with the Puerto Rico Department of Education, students across all 78 municipalities will compete in public speaking, poetry, essay writing, visual arts, sculpture, and painting, reflecting on Puerto Rico's history and its place in the American story. The goal is not just to produce winners. It is to produce young people who know where they come from.

Patriot Games Youth Athletics Selection

Puerto Rico's public school athletes will compete for the opportunity to represent the island in the Patriot Games in the United States, carrying Puerto Rico's name onto a national stage as part of the Semiquincentennial year.

Community Service Initiative — "The 250 Gift"

The 250 Gift Project asks Puerto Ricans to give something back in the year the nation turns 250. Beach cleanups, community surveys, volunteer projects, and educational initiatives, organized with students, universities, and nonprofit organizations across the island.

America250 Historic 5K Run

A community race tracing historic landmarks across Puerto Rico, concluding with a cultural fair featuring local artisans, traditional crafts, live music, and family programming. The route is the message.

Across 78 municipalities. Through every generation. Puerto Rico America250 is how this island shows up for the nation's greatest milestone.
