Executive Order Establishing America250 Puerto Rico

March 2026 · San Juan, Puerto Rico

The Governor of Puerto Rico will issue the Executive Order formally establishing America250 Puerto Rico as the island's official initiative to commemorate the United States Semiquincentennial. The order launches Puerto Rico's participation in the national program, designates the institutional framework for coordination across government agencies and municipalities, and commits the island to a full calendar of civic, cultural, educational, and military activities throughout 2026 and beyond. It is the founding document of Puerto Rico's participation in the nation's greatest milestone.

Liberty Bell Island Tour

All 78 Municipalities

A symbolic replica of the Liberty Bell will travel the length and breadth of Puerto Rico, stopping in each of the island's 78 municipalities on a journey that culminates on July 4, 2026, at the official Semiquincentennial celebration. Each stop will be marked by a civic ceremony, educational programming for local students, and community engagement activities. The tour is designed with a single purpose: to ensure that the 250th anniversary of the United States is not an event that happens in San Juan and is observed elsewhere. It belongs to every community on this island, and it will arrive at every door.

National Borinqueneers Day

April 13, 2026 · Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico will formally observe National Borinqueneers Day in honor of the soldiers of the 65th Infantry Regiment, the most decorated unit in Puerto Rican military history and one of the most distinguished in the history of the United States Army. The Borinqueneers served in World War I, World War II, and Korea, where they fought with a valor that went formally unrecognized for more than sixty years. In 2016, Congress awarded them the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian honor the nation can bestow. This observance is not a ceremony of the past. It is a commitment to carry their legacy forward.

MAY
2026

America250 Flag Installation Initiative

May 2026 · San Juan, Puerto Rico

As a permanent, visible symbol of Puerto Rico's participation in the Semiquincentennial, the America250 flag will be installed at the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge. The flags of the United States, Puerto Rico, and America250 will fly together along Avenida Baldorioty de Castro, one of the island's most traveled corridors, for the duration of the commemorative year. For every resident and visitor who passes beneath them, they mark a simple and irrefutable fact: Puerto Rico is here, and this anniversary is ours.

MAY
2026

National Poppy Day

May 22, 2026 · Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico will observe National Poppy Day, a national tradition of remembrance dating to World War I, when the red poppy became the enduring symbol of those who fell in combat. This observance honors the more than 1,900 Puerto Rican service members who have given their lives in defense of the United States across every major conflict since World War I. Their sacrifice is the island's most profound contribution to the American story, and it will be acknowledged with the gravity it deserves.

MAY
2026

Memorial Day Commemoration

May 25, 2026 · Atlantic Garden Veterans Cemetery, Aguadilla

A formal commemorative ceremony will be held at the Atlantic Garden Veterans Cemetery in Aguadilla, one of Puerto Rico's most sacred military sites, to honor the men and women who lost their lives in service to the United States. The ceremony will include wreath-laying, formal military honors, and recognition of Puerto Rico's fallen. It is a moment of solemn obligation, not celebration. A reminder that the freedom this anniversary commemorates was purchased, in part, by Puerto Rican lives.

JUNE
2026

America250 Historic 5K Run

June 2026 · Puerto Rico

The America250 5K Run will bring together athletes and community members along a route that traces historic landmarks across Puerto Rico. The race is designed as both a civic event and a living tour of the island's history. Every mile marker is a reminder of the places and people that shaped this island and, through it, the nation. The run concludes with a community cultural fair featuring local artisans, traditional crafts, live music, and family programming. The route is the message.

JUNE
2026

Women Veterans Day

June 12, 2026 · Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico will formally honor Women Veterans Day, recognizing the contributions, leadership, and sacrifice of the women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Puerto Rican women have served in every branch of the military and in every era of modern conflict. This observance acknowledges their service not as an addendum to the broader military record, but as an essential part of it.

Commemorative Plaque Unveiling

July 1, 2026 · Puerto Rico

Living Flag Ceremony

July 1, 2026 · El Morro, Old San Juan

Students from the Puerto Rico Department of Education summer programs will gather at El Morro, the 16th-century fortress that stands as the oldest and most recognizable symbol of this island's history, to form a Living Flag, recreating the flags of the United States and Puerto Rico through their own bodies and movement. It is the most direct statement this commemoration can make: the next generation, standing together on the oldest ground on the island, under both flags at once. No speech says what that image says.

JULY
2026

America250 Gala Concert — Base Ramey

July 1, 2026 · Base Ramey, Aguadilla

The first of three commemorative gala concerts marking the days leading into July 4th. Held at Base Ramey in Aguadilla, a site with deep roots in Puerto Rico's military and aviation history, the concert will feature musical performances celebrating the island's cultural heritage and its enduring relationship with the United States Armed Forces. Music is not decoration here. It is testimony.

JULY
2026

America250 Gala Concert — Salinas

July 2, 2026 · Campamento Santiago, Salinas

The second commemorative concert, held at Campamento Santiago in Salinas, a military installation that has trained generations of Puerto Rican soldiers and sits at the heart of the island's southern coast. The evening brings together artists and community members in a celebration of music, culture, and shared history on the eve of the nation's 250th birthday.

JULY
2026

America250 Gala Concert — Guaynabo

July 3, 2026 · Fort Buchanan, Guaynabo

The third and final concert in the series, held at Fort Buchanan, the United States Army installation in Guaynabo that has anchored the military presence on the island for over a century. On the night before July 4th, this stage carries the full weight of what the following day means: a nation turning 250, and an island that has been part of that nation for more than 100 of those years.

JULY
2026

United States Independence Day — Semiquincentennial Celebration

July 4, 2026 · Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico's central observance of the 250th Anniversary of the United States. The full July 4th program includes:

  • Semiquincentennial Sunrise Ceremony. A ceremonial dawn observance marking the precise moment the nation turns 250. Before the speeches, before the celebrations, before the day fills with noise: a moment of stillness and acknowledgment at first light.
  • Liberty Bell Mundillo Creation. Puerto Rican artisans will complete their recreation of the Liberty Bell in mundillo, the island's centuries-old tradition of handmade bobbin lace. The finished object is unlike anything that exists anywhere else: an American symbol rendered entirely in Puerto Rican craft, made by Puerto Rican hands, in a tradition older than the republic it honors.
  • Commemorative Pictorial Stamp Cancellation. A special postal cancellation issued in honor of the Semiquincentennial. A small, permanent mark pressed into paper on the day the nation turns 250, in Puerto Rico.
  • Official America250 Ceremony. The island's formal, official observance of the 250th Anniversary of the United States. Puerto Rico, present. Fully.

July 5, 2026 · Hipódromo Camarero, Canóvanas

2026

United States Coast Guard Birthday

August 4, 2026 · Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico will commemorate the 236th birthday of the United States Coast Guard, established in 1790 and present on and around this island ever since. Activities will recognize the service of Coast Guard members stationed in Puerto Rico and honor their essential contributions to maritime safety, national security, and the protection of the communities along Puerto Rico's coastline. For an island surrounded entirely by sea, the Coast Guard is not an abstraction. It is a neighbor.

AUGUST
2026

Purple Heart Day

August 7, 2026 · Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico will observe Purple Heart Day, honoring the military men and women who were wounded or killed in action in defense of the United States. The Purple Heart is the oldest military decoration in American history, established by George Washington in 1782. Puerto Rican recipients of the Purple Heart Medal have earned it in every major conflict since World War I. Their wounds and their losses are recorded in the island's history as acts of the highest service.

JUNE
2027

America250 Regatta

June 11–14, 2027 · Puerto Rico

The America250 Regatta extends the Semiquincentennial's legacy into the year that follows, closing the commemorative program with one of the most ambitious maritime events in Puerto Rico's modern history. Training ships, cruise vessels, and international participants will gather in Puerto Rico's waters for four days of sailing, cultural performances, culinary experiences, and community celebration. Puerto Rico is an island. It has always looked outward to the sea. The Regatta honors that identity and sends the Semiquincentennial off not with a closing ceremony, but with full sails.
